About

Hello, my name is Joshua Chandler.

Showing vulnerability with another and opening up difficult and often painful material is easier said than done. Therefore it is important to find the right therapist for you.

I can help you with managing anxiety, fighting depression, confidence building as well as relationship issues and exploring experiences from your childhood.

I am passionate about psychological and emotional well-being. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment to explore and make sense of your experiences. Positive and effective change can enhance our sense of well-being, and help build our resilience so that we can cope better with the challenges life presents us.
Through a therapeutic relationship based on trust and mutual respect, I will support you in developing your own resources – improving your quality of life.

* I am an MBACP accredited practitioner. Membership No. 684945
* My training is BACP Accredited to ensure a high standard of safe and ethical practice.

Through various charitable counselling services in the East Midlands area, Higher Education, and Healthcare, I have experience working with both children and adults. I have regular ongoing clinical supervision to ensure safe and ethical practice. I am committed to my personal and professional development, and attend relevant CPD training.

I value the positive experience of being acknowledged, understood, and accepted by someone in relationship. Therefore it is my intent to welcome you into a safe and secure environment whereby you feel supported in exploring the issues that bring you to counselling.

Session options

Making a booking: When you’re ready to make contact, I recommend you meet a few therapists to ensure you find the best fit for you.

Confirmation & Documents: Once a booking has been made, you will receive a confirmation e-mail including everything you need to know about your appointment. This e-mail will also include the relevant documents to be completed prior to contracting.

Assessment: Your first session will be a great opportunity to explore the nature of your concerns, clarify if counselling is the best way forward, and identify the focus of the therapy. It is important to remember that you are not obligated to take up therapy if it is not right for you.

Confidentiality: The way in which your personal information and privacy will be protected including records of sessions and the way in which these are stored safely will be explained.

Contracting: This first session is important for making sure that you feel comfortable with your therapist and their way of working. At this point we can agree the details of how therapy will be provided, frequency of sessions, and any other details regarding your therapy.

Sessions: Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes for individual therapy. For couples this will vary from 60 to 90 minutes. How many appointments you have will depend on your individual circumstances, and can be agreed between you and me.

Counselling is an opportunity for you to explore the issues that brought you to therapy in a confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment. These issues may leave you with thoughts and feelings that are difficult to understand. If these thoughts and feelings are not acknowledged and understood within the context of your experiences, they can develop further until the thoughts and feelings are unmanageable and you have a deep sense of dissatisfaction in life.

By exploring these issues with a professional, you can make sense of your experiences, resolve your difficulties and discover ways of coping.

Counselling is not advice giving, rather a place where you will be supported in making your own choices and finding a way forward. An experience of acceptance, honesty and understanding is created as your relationship with your therapist develops and this alone can provide healing. Counselling can also increase your self-awareness, improve your emotional and psychological health, help you realise your potential and live a more fulfilled life.
