About

Hello, I’m Jean McMinn. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you.
Whether you’ve had counselling before or this is your first time seeking professional support, I’m glad you’re reaching out.
You might be troubled about the future or troubled from memories of the past. You could be having relationship difficulties, or you might just be looking for support while you try to make sense of the way you feel about yourself and your life. Perhaps you’re hoping to recover from bereavement, or you’re struggling to cope with daily anxiety.
Pain, trauma, grief, distress are all real. They are messages to ourselves signalling that that we want to heal something in our lives. Perhaps we want to live differently, to thrive, to feel at peace and not live from a wounded part of ourselves.
With almost 30 years’ experience as a counsellor, I’ve worked with a diverse range of people who’ve come to therapy with many different types of concerns, from trauma to challenges with depression, anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties. I also have a special interest in working with women’s relationship to food and body image.
Your recovery is a unique and personal process and I believe I can support you during this difficult and challenging time in your life.
I have a wealth of skills and knowledge but believe that you are best placed to know what is right for you and what sits easy with your own values and beliefs.
I currently offer private practice counselling in Holywood and Moira.

Perhaps you are a little unsure about who can help or where to turn. Deciding to have therapy can be a daunting process, so it’s useful for us to have an initial meeting. I offer an informal 30 minute free consultation session. This is an opportunity for you to meet me and get a sense of how I work, for me to learn more about your needs and why you’re considering counselling at this time in your life.
It allows me to assess how I can support you and then we can then decide how to proceed.
It can be a big decision to decide whether to begin counselling and important that you find the right therapist to work with. We will work collaboratively throughout the process. Whether we work together for a short time or over a longer period, there will be regular points at which we review the therapy. This is important to make sure you are getting the help and support that you need.
All of us have struggles in life, at times we hit what feels like insurmountable brick walls obstacles. I believe that knowing we are not alone is vital. So too, is feeling safe, accepted, heard, and understood. Being supported to work at a pace that is right for you and having the space, support and courage to hear that wise and knowing part of you that will lead you to your healing. I am here to support you on that journey.
